INGESTION OF A FOREIGN OBJECT THROUGH THE EXHAUST
  • Reason: Breakage of an engine piston.
  • Check: The pistons and the exhaust manifold.
  • Symptoms: Lack of power, engine failure, and oil loss. The exhaust manifold and exhaust manifold cover are covered with molten aluminum.
  • Observations: At the same time as repairing the engine and turbo, the exhaust manifold must be cleaned or replaced so that no aluminum particles remain. If the aluminum is not removed from the exhaust manifold, when the engine is restarted and warms up, it will melt and hit the exhaust turbine again.

INGESTION OF A FOREIGN OBJECT THROUGH THE INTAKE
  • Reason: Entry through the intake of a large foreign object (metal washer, nut, etc.).
  • Check: The air filter, intake ducts, hoses, and clamps.
  • Observations: This fault usually occurs when changing the air filter, a pipe, or the turbo and forgetting or losing a washer or nut in the intake ducts. It can also occur if a clamp on the hoses is loose and gravel or similar debris from the road is sucked in.
THE VALVE DOES NOT WORK (standard turbochargers with pressure valves)
  • Reason: Breakage of the hose that carries pressure to the valve
  • Check: Check that the hose does not touch any part of the engine (if this part is hot, it deforms and breaks the hose) or that the clamps holding the hose have not cut it.
  • Symptoms: The engine has more power at high revs because the valve does not cut off the turbo boost (risk of engine failure).
  • Observations: This breakage occurs when handling the engine without care. It is also possible to forget to replace the hose after checking that the valve is working.
